Lee Stafford White Collection Poem 2003
Cold to contradict a touch that burns,
The crack underfoot of powdered floor,
With hands I clasp to melt to the core,
Yet droplets are all this grasp can draw,
All I offer is too little to earn.
Offered a place I have never sort,
With a wealth to stifle ambitions flow,
Must I spit to shadow a natural glow,
Climb atop a pyre to suppress a no,
Reduce to ashes the mistaken caught.
Upon this soil seeds are scattered and sown,
Through latent power and careful nurture,
Each sections union will grow to rapture,
The portrait evolved from that of before,
My last wish granted her absence unknown.
Line by line the instructions followed,
Every move applied, badly prescribed,
Do I look so dumb, so easy to ply,
Is the product enough for all you have tried,
And it’s sad I’ve already seen this road.
Don’t you understand what you're doing to me,
Given closeness with no proximity,
Each myopic from reflexivity
An odd substitute for being lonely
Don’t you understand what you're doing to me.
